My Stay at San Ysidro Ranch

San Ysidro Ranch Guide

San Ysidro Ranch

San Ysidro Ranch is the perfect getaway for those who love a timeless and classic aesthetic. Set on a 500 acre ranch and the absolute epitome of luxury, there is no better place to go to rest, recharge, and reinvigorate your mind and body. Located only 5 miles away from the Santa Barbara Zoo makes San Ysidro Ranch far enough away to feel like a true escape, but close enough to enjoy a relaxing trip to the zoo. Fun Fact: John and Jackie Kennedy honeymooned at San Ysidro Ranch. And, let’s be honest…if it’s good enough for the Kennedy’s then it’s good enough for anyone!

Location

One of my favorite things about San Ysidro Ranch is the location. Located in Montecito, just East of Santa Barbara, San Ysidro Ranch is ideally close to the ocean and far enough away from the city where it feels relaxing, yet close enough where you can leave the property and enjoy fun activities if desired. The resort sits along a stretch of land often referred to as the “American Riviera” loved by all for its serenity. With perfect weather, gorgeous views, and friendly people, San Ysidro Ranch is ideally located for the perfect getaway.

The Cottages

San Ysidro Ranch doesn’t have rooms, it has “cottages.” This unique, luxurious, and homey cottages make you feel like you are staying your home away from home. With a warm feel, heated floors, fireplaces, and outdoor furniture, you will feel more comfortable than ever before.

Ocean View Hideaway: If you are looking for something a bit more minimalistic, opt for the Ocean View Hideaways. These rooms make full use of the 575 square feet they offer. Antique decorations, fire places, and ocean view decks make this cottage the perfect option for those who don’t need a ton of room but are looking for a luxurious getaway.

Oak Grove Cottage: During my last trip to San Ysidro Ranch, I stayed in the Oak Grove Cottage. With over 1,100 square feet, these private gated cottages surrounded by beautiful gardens offer everything you could want and more. I loved the fireplace, private outdoor space for Oscar (our dog) and antique decorations almost as much and I loved our own private hot tub. The heated floors made it a breeze to wake up in the morning. And, to top it all off, I absolutely fell in love with the outdoor shower! San Ysidro Ranch makes you feel like you have complete privacy in the garden of your dreams.

Warner Cottage: The Warner Cottage is an absolute dream! At 2,500 square feet, this “cottage” will make you feel like you are staying in an old school European home. From the fireplace and dining area to the 33 foot pool, rain shower, and sunken hot tub, you will feel beyond satisfied with your choice to stay at San Ysidro Ranch. This villa offers guests complete privacy with a separate driveway and parking area.

The Grounds

The perfectly landscaped grounds at San Ysidro Ranch are to die for. The 41 cottages on the property sit atop lush gardens that will make you feel like you are in a European dream. Whether you prefer to relax by the poolside or be pampered at the spa, San Ysidro Ranch offers the most serene atmosphere. If you feel like exploring and leaving the resort, be sure to take advantage of the option to have a chauffeured day trip to Santa Ynez wine country. One of my favorite things to do during my stay was simply walking the grounds. While there are a plethora of hiking trails just behind the property, there is really no reason to leave the property if you don’t feel like it. I fell in love with the lush greenery, vibrant colored flowers, and stone structures throughout the property. I truly felt like I had been transported back to the French countryside.

The Food

There are two restaurants on site at San Ysidro Ranch and trust me, you will never feel the need to eat anywhere else during your stay. Stonehouse is a Michelin restaurant thanks to Chef Matt Johnson. This rustic “house” is surrounded by beautiful gardens that the Chef uses for the freshest ingredients. Whether you are looking forward to relaxing drinks or a full menu, you will enjoy a crackling fireplace and creek side views. String lights help to set the mood of this understated luxurious restaurant. During my visit, I couldn’t get enough of the octopus and salmon. I also highly recommend the sea bass and you have to finish with a souffle dessert!

Plow and Angel is the other restaurant on site at San Ysidro Ranch. From comfort food like mac and cheese and tender ribs to blood orange margaritas, you can’t go wrong with a few trips to Plow and Angel. Stained glass windows and hand picked artwork make Plow and Angel a place where you can sit back, relax, and take in the beauty of your life. Plow and Angel does not take reservations so be sure to arrive early during busy season!

At this time they have combined both menus into one so you can have a taste of both at any time!

And Everything Else

San Ysidro Ranch has everything to make your stay absolutely flawless. In addition to the gorgeous grounds, top of the line restaurants, and private, luxurious cottages, this resort offers so many amenities that add to the ambiance. If you enjoy working out, there is an indoor / outdoor fitness center for your enjoyment. I also am a lover of yoga so I was ecstatic to find out they had private yoga instructors on site. One of the reasons I chose to visit San Ysidro Ranch was because they allow pets on site. Their privileged pet program makes sure your pet has the best stay possible. With a plush doggie bed, fresh baked treat, a new toy, and doggie bowls, my dog felt like the poshest pup. My stay truly felt like a home away from home since I could bring my dog with me.

There are not enough good things to say about San Ysidro Ranch. While its only a few hours from LA, it truly felt like an escape to the old school European Countryside. I felt spoiled by phenomenal service, out of this world food prepared by the most amazing chef, and a cottage that had plenty of room, gorgeous antique decorations, and felt luxurious and homey all at the same time.
