Somehow the last year flew by and we are already coming up on the holiday season! While I love the change to dress up in boots, sweaters and scarves, there are also times I really miss those warm sunny days. Fortunately, there are plenty of amazing vacation spots to choose from that offer gorgeous sunny weather during the holidays. Planning a beach getaway during the holiday season also offers a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping and prepping for family holidays. Below are a few of my favorite tried and true destinations for everyone looking for a beach holiday getaway.
St Barths
Stay: If you’re visiting St. Barths, there is no better place to stay than Eden Rock. This hotel is located on white sandy beaches that overlook clear blue water. Whether you are visiting with your spouse and interested in staying in a single room, or enjoying a vacation with friends or family and want an entire villa, Eden Rock offers something for everyone.
Activities: Those who visit St. Barths do so for true relaxation. This is particularly true among holiday visitors. With the stress of holiday parties and entertaining families, I couldn’t think of a better location for a getaway. That being said, the primary activity on St. Barths is rest and relaxation overlooking beautiful beaches. Enjoy a stroll along Saline Beach, one of the top rated beaches in the Caribbean, or walk around Gustavia, a small harbor town with great boutique shopping to pass the time. If you enjoy being in the water, be sure to go snorkeling and enjoy all the wildlife living amongst the reefs.
Food: If you’re in the mood for a party, the second Nikki Beach brunch seating is absolutely legendary. However, if you are truly sticking to the rest and recharge itinerary, you should have your sights set on Atelier Joel Robuchon, Le Tamarin (excellent for vegetarians) and Eddy’s.
Costa Rica
Stay: Costa Rica has almost a magical feel. Located in the middle of a rainforest, the lush greenery surrounding you during your stay will have you feeling recharged and ready to take on the holidays. While the luxurious Andaz and Four Seasons both have hotels in Costa Rica, Nayara Tented Camp is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for something different. This luxury glamping experience will allow you to experience the true beauty of Costa Rica with modern luxuries such as air conditioning, an infinity plunge pool, and wi-fi both in-room and throughout the property.
Activities: Whether you are interested in relaxing at the spa or exploring the rainforest, Nayara has it all. Enjoy running into wildlife on the trails, kayaking, zip lining, and even hikes to beautiful waterfalls. After a day of activities, opt for time in the spa enjoying massages, facials, and full serenity during your stay.
Food: There are so many different restaurants to try in Costa Rica, you really cannot go wrong. If you want to keep things easy, Nayara offers guests a unique gastronomic experience that they would never have to go off site for. Whether enjoying al fresco dining at La Terraza del Arenal or enjoying fine dining at Amor Loco, Nayara offer guests everything they would need during their holiday getaway.
Punta Mita
Stay: Punta Mita is a small town in Mexico that is perfect for a holiday getaway. While visiting, you cannot go wrong with a stay at the Four Seasons or the St. Regis. Both hotels offer luxurious indulgences from spa days to lounging on the beach and enjoying water sports.
Activities: If visiting with your significant other, planning a golf and spa day is always a favorite. Punta Mita offers some of the most beautiful golf courses in Mexico with perfect weather during the holiday seasons. While there are not tons of activities to participate in, the relaxing nature of Punta Mita lends itself well to holiday travelers who are in search of a magical getaway.
Food: Mexican food is one of my favorites and the food at both the Four Seasons and St. Regis do not disappoint. If you want to venture offsite, I highly recommend Tuna Blanca (upscale Mexican food), Norma’s Tacos (authentic Mexican food) or Punta Mercedes (best restaurant with a view).
Dominican Republic
Stay: If you are a lover of golf looking for a beach holiday getaway, there is no better place to stay than Casa de Campo Resort and Villas. Contemporary and luxurious, Casa de Campo offers everything from standard rooms to private villas perfect for family and friends vacationing together.
Activities: If you are staying at Casa de Campo, it is no doubt because you love golf. Equipped with 63 holes designed by Pete Dye, there is no shortage of activities to keep you outside enjoying the beautiful weather. In addition, there are 13 tennis courts, 3 polo fields and a 245-acre shooting facility for guests to enjoy.
Food: Casa de Campo offers everything from restaurants to bars and nightlife which is perfect for those guests who don’t want to deal with the hassle of leaving the hotel. For those guests seeking more adventure, be sure to try La Yola Restaurant (overwater), El Meson de la Cava, and Restaurante Don Pepe (a DR staple).
Hawaii
Stay: Hawaii is an excellent beach holiday getaway if you are prioritizing wellness. Sensei Lana’i, located in Lanai City is perfect for those seeking a zen experience. Rooms that are all white and filled with natural light will make you feel like you’ve been whisked away to paradise.
Activities: Everything at Sensei Lana’i is centered around wellness. Whether walking through the lush gardens, enjoying a rain forest shower, canopy zip-lining or participating in rhythmic yoga, there is no doubt you will leave Hawaii feeling fully at peace. If you are looking for adventure, extend your trip and enjoy some island hopping.
Food: All the food at Sensei Lana’i is specially curated with a farm to table feel. Enjoy fresh caught fishes and wholesome ingredients to add to your journey of wellness.
Belize
Stay: If you are visiting Belize, Cayo Espanto is the perfect luxurious private island getaway. Whether you are looking for a one bedroom beachfront villa or overwater bungalow, this is the ultimate private experience. You can also choose to rent the entire island, which comes with 7 oceanfront villas to accommodate 18 people.
Activities: The main goal of a stay on Cayo Espanto is relaxation. However, optional activities include scuba diving, fishing, snorkeling and bird watching. Puerto Rico
Stay: A Ritz Carlton Reserve property, is not the typical Ritz. It’s a step above in all aspects. Dorado Beach is the place to stay if visiting Puerto Rico during the holidays. Each room at Dorado Beach has been specially curated to feel like your own personal place in the middle of paradise.
Activities: Whether you enjoy spa days, golf, sailing or culinary journeys, there is something for everyone at Dorado Beach. Puerto Rico is also full of history. Be sure to visit Old San Juan and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding architecture and culture.
Food: Puerto Rico is definitely a place that is worth venturing out for food. A few hot spots include Santaella (trendy), Jose Enrique (adventurous), Kasalta (traditional Cuban) and Uma’s (beachfront al fresco dining).
